What she does

An assistant, not a chatbot

Clara doesn't just answer questions — she does the work: research, files, code, scheduling, and a live browser you can watch and take over.

💬

Chat with a personality

Ongoing conversations with an animated character you can restyle to make her yours.

🛠️

Agentic tasks

Web research, files, and code — plus a live browser you can watch and take over mid-task.

⏰

Reminders & scheduled jobs

Clara works while you're away and checks in with a morning note.

✅

Approvals for risky actions

Sending, deleting, buying, installing — you approve on your phone with a preview first.

🎙️

Voice mode

Talk to Clara with a local voice; dictation uses your phone's speech recognition.

📸

Photos & files

Share photos and files straight from your phone into the conversation.

🎯

Goals & check-ins

Set goals and get regular check-ins to keep you on track.

🔌

Connectors

Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook, Spotify, Notion, Todoist, GitHub, Slack, Discord, Telegram, Dropbox and more.

☁️

Optional cloud boost

Need extra muscle? Tap cloud models via OpenRouter — with spending caps you control.

How it works

Up and running in an afternoon

Install on your PC

One script sets up everything: the Bonsai 2 27B model, the agent runtime, private search, and the voice. It prints a pairing code when it's done.

Pair your phone

Install the Android app and pair it — over home Wi-Fi, or securely from anywhere with Tailscale.

Talk to Clara

Chat, hand her tasks, approve actions on your phone. She runs on your hardware, on your terms.

Privacy

Private by design, not by promise

By default, nothing leaves your PC. Not your chats, not your files, not your memories. Data only leaves your machine when you explicitly ask it to:

What you need

Clara runs a 27-billion-parameter model on your own hardware — so she asks a little more of your PC than a cloud app would.

Download for Android

Grab the APK from GitHub Releases. It's free, no account needed.

Download the APK

1. Download

Tap the button above on your phone to download the APK from the official GitHub Releases page.

2. Allow the install

Android will ask you to allow installs from unknown sources. Allow it for your browser or files app — this is normal for apps installed outside the Play Store.

3. Pair with your PC

Open Clara, enter the pairing code shown by the PC installer, and you're in.

New to this? Unknown sources just means "apps not from the Play Store." Clara is open source — you can read every line of the app's code on GitHub before installing.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Is Clara really free?

Yes. Clara is free and open source under the Apache 2.0 license. No subscription, no account, no paywalled features. The optional cloud boost uses your own OpenRouter key with caps you set — that's the only thing that could ever cost money, and it's off by default.

Does Clara work without the internet?

Your chats, tasks, voice, and memories all run locally on your PC — no internet needed for those. Web search, connectors, and remote access from outside your home (via Tailscale) need a connection, naturally.

How is this different from ChatGPT or Claude?

Those run on someone else's computers; your conversations live on their servers. Clara runs on your hardware. Your chats, files, and memories never leave your PC unless you explicitly send them somewhere.

What phones are supported?

The Clara app is Android 9 and up. The backend runs on an Ubuntu 24.04+ PC with an NVIDIA GPU (12 GB+ VRAM).

Can I see the source code?

Absolutely — that's the point. The whole project is on GitHub under Apache 2.0: the Android app, the Python bridge, the agent setup, the router training data, and the installer.

Who makes Clara?

Clara is an open-source project by The Wider Lens Initiative. Contributions are welcome on GitHub.
